Apparently you won't be able to get your hands on a Nokia N900 until the 4th of December due to unprecedented customer demand. NokNok has revealed that Nokia received so many pre-orders for the N900 that it has exhausted stock, meaning that more handsets need to be shipped in for the general release.

I guess i will send my Nokia N86 back to Nokia USA.

From day 1 this phone had memory issues, The phone has been nothing but a headache.

I have given up trying to fix it, Thank You all for your help here it is a great forum In the 20 plus years i hvae had a cell phone most have been Nokia and with the level of non servie i hva eogtten from the company that calls it self Nokiausa.com I will never buy another phone from them I am sure this past 30 day return ill be a headache

I also never got the free headset that was part of the deal for ordering this phone months ahead of time. from Nokia USA

Back to my old N95 ... I wish my N93 had all the NAM bands I still love the design and feel of that phone

as far as being a one of the few people having trouble with this phone

For my part I've experienced;

Massive memory leak - at startup I got the "you're down to 10mb of memory", even though I've deliberately uninstalled all unneccessary files (games etc) and avoided installing anything...and the only reason i upgraded the firmware was the phone would no longer function as it was saying it was down to less than 1/2 meg of internal memory ...i spent untold hours trying to read about and fix the problems and also found N86 developers on twitter who work for Nokia who were well, not that helpful.

Not looking forward to dealing with Nokia repair for my N86 software issues

The phone i love more than the iphone 3gs has turned into a brick on my desk, many people have spoken about this phone havibg sofware problems and i just learned in the last 72 hours they are correct ths phone is great hardware but the software is horrible and hte phone currently will do nothing except dial a number you cant even text from the phone, Thanks Nokia how could you have this problem and not correct it

I took a few photos with this great camera phone even though the screen broke after just 2 weeks use, i still love the phone, its very handy to use this phone and i prefer it over my Iphone 3gs because of the flash on the Nokia N86 really works...

The only problem i have with the camera phone N86 is a huge memory leak the phone is constantly tellling me to move files off the c drive to the storage card and i dont know why as i have spent HOURS trying to find the cause and have removed as much as i can from the phones internal memory.. anyone have any ideas about this

At last month’s Open Developer Conference, Sprint outlined their new “Open” approach which entailed a more hands-off policy when dealing with developers and applications, as well as voice and data services. Basically, Sprint got out of its own way while still maintaining management of all of these facets of the services it provides. Wireless carriers have learned that the more open they are with their software, the more innovative and creative developers can be when creating applications for their handsets, which keeps customers happy. While the top two wireless carriers duke it out both on television and in court, it leaves a little room for the struggling carriers, like Sprint, to garner a little attention for positive efforts. Sprint just made a major move in that direction by doing away with one of their longest standing, and most reviled fees.

For years now, Sprint has charged a conditional call forwarding fee. Sprint customers could set up call forwarding to field calls that came in while the phone was busy, or when the phone just wasn’t answered. Every time this occurred, the customer was charged $.20 per minute. Not per call—per minute. So if a Sprint customer is on the phone and lets a second call be forwarded to another number, say, their Google Voice number, and the callers leaves a three-minute message, that call just cost the recipient $.60. Now, imagine that Sprint customer who uses their phone for business, and who has a high call volume and has set up call forwarding to be more responsive to customers. That 20 cents a pop can really add up.

Sprint announced last month that it would do away with this fee in mid-November, and a couple of days ago, they did just that. Customers will not longer be charged that $.20 per minute to have calls forwarded.

While it’s a move intended to increase customer satisfaction, something Sprint has been striving for since CEO Dan Hesse came on board in December 2007, it’s also obviously an overture to Google. By not charging customers to forward their calls to Google Voice, more people are likely to use that service. They’re also more likely to keep their Sprint numbers and just use a Google Voice number as a backup rather than their primary number. It seems Sprint learned a lesson from the debacle brought about by Apple and AT&T blocking Google Voice from the iPhone, an issue that caught the attention of the Federal Communications Commission.

In addition to Google Voice, Sprint customers now also have access to the visual voicemail service YouMail, free of charge. With the conditional call forwarding fee gone, customers can take advantage of the many features offered by the service, including the ability to keep messages forever, and greeting callers by name or with a personalized message. YouMail still charges for their premium service, which starts at $1.99 a month, and is still more affordable than $.20 per minute. YouMail also offers mobile applications for the iPhone, BlackBerry, and Android phones.

During the Smartphone Summit yesterday, a day-long fiesta of seminars devoted to all things smartphones just ahead of the CTIA Wireless show in Orlando, Vincent Washington, a Business Development Manager at Research In Motion (RIM) revealed Nokia's upcoming E90 Communicator will be the first device to support BlackBerry Connect 4.0, a major upgrade over the current version.
The BlackBerry Connect program enables the mob-e-mail leader's push e-mail and data access solutions to work with non-Blackberry devices. BlackBerry Connect 4.0 adds the ability to generate an encryption key wirelessly, wireless activation of a device in the enterprise, AES in addition to Triple Data Encryption Standard (DES), Dutch and Brazilian Portuguese language support, and the ablity to erase and disable a BlackBerry-enabled device

So for corporate customers BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) software tightly integrates with Microsoft Exchange, IBM Lotus Domino and existing enterprise systems to enable secure access to e-mail and other corporate data. This includes the automatic synchronization of messages to the E90's inbox, calendar syncing, attachment viewing, Triple DES encryption, Remote Address Lookup of corporate directory, and centralized device management, with support for IT policies such as over-the-air device disablement and password device lock.

And, as with individuals and small businesses with BlackBerry handhelds, BlackBerry Connect will enable E90 users to access ISP e-mail accounts through the hosted BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS).

More on the E90
Nokia resurrects its long-running communicator line with the E90, which is now a part of the business-centric Eseries.

While the E90 is a Symbian smartphone like past communicators, Nokia ditches the S80 interface for the far more popular S60 platform with this device. This means, among other things, a far larger swath of third-party software will be available to E90 owners than the 9500, for example.

The E90 measures 5.2 x 2.2 x 0.8 inches (132 x 57 x 20 millimeters) and weighs 7.4 ounces (210 grams).

As a quad-band GSM (850/900/1800/1900) device, the E90 will pretty much get you a signal almost anywhere in the world. There's also GPRS, 2.5G EDGE, 3G UMTS and 3.5G HSPDA data networking supported. Additional wireless technologies include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth with stereo headset support, GPS and even an FM radio.

There's a full keypad along with a 240 x 320 pixel resolution display that you can run software from on the outside - so you can use nearly all the E90's functions with the smartphone closed (unlike previous Nokia communicators), and a full QWERTY thumb-keyboard with a large 800 x 352 pixel resolution screen that supports 16 million colors inside.

The E90 has two cameras, a 3.2 megapixel one with autofocus and flash and a second shooter for video conferencing. It features stereo speakers and a 2.5 mm connector for stereo headphones. There's a microSD slot to add additional storage on top of the device's built-in 128 MB of RAM: It ships with a 512 MB microSD card, which format that is now available up to 2 GB in size. The E90 sports a USB Mini-B connector to link to a PC at USB 2.0 speeds.

It includes a text-to-speech reader, the Quickoffice document editor/reader, many personal information management tools, the new Nokia Maps application, a MP3 and AAC audio player, an video player, and a full compliment of messaging and e-mail options.

Nokia estimates the E90 will start shipping during the second quarter of this year, and become available globally during the third. The unsubsidized retail price should be around 750 to 800 Euros, which is in the $1,000 range.

Although the nation’s No. 3 carrier has announced plans to launch a WiMAX network and is looking at an array of options to help drive the technology into ubiquity, Sprint Nextel Corp. today announced that its CDMA2000 1x EV-DO Revision A network continues to expand and now covers more than 203 million people nationwide. The carrier added that the service is available in more than 10,000 cities and 900 airports.

Not to be outdone, Verizon Wireless responded with some numbers of its own claiming its Rev. A network covers 208 million pops across the country.

In other news, Sprint Nextel announced it will be expanding its Right Plan Promise from three to six months, enabling customers to make changes to their service plans within the first six months of new service without requiring a contract renewal.

File this one under rumors for the time being, but a rather reputable electronics industry mag seems to think that Nokia might be gearing up to make a bid for RIM. The statement was mentioned in passing, with the exact quote reading:

"There were other rumors last week. Oracle was rumored to make a bid for SAP, Nokia would make a bid to buy Research in Motion, and Tokyo Electron Ltd. (TEL) would buy Lam Research Corp., according to SG Cowen Securities Inc. (New York)."
As far as we can tell, this is pretty much coming out of the blue, so we have reason to doubt its legitimacy. That being said, the source has a long history of accurate reporting, so it's not out of the realm of possibility. Stay tuned for more information if it materializes. In a first for both sponsor and sponsoree, BlackBerry will present John Mayer`s upcoming North American tour, Billboard has learned. Portable communication device BlackBerry will use the Mayer tour to help launch its upcoming AT&T-carried mobile phone, Curve.

The 40-date BlackBerry Presents John Mayer in Concert tour begins June 1 in Ridgefield, Wash., with Ben Folds supporting. Live Nation is promoting the majority of dates on the tour and reports that sales are strong in the early going.

Paul Kalbfleisch, senior director of corporate marketing for BlackBerry parent Research in Motion (RIM), says recent additions to the BlackBerry product line such as Pearl and the new Curve make live music a viable avenue to reach consumers in search of devices with plenty of capabilities.

"John Mayer`s concert tour gives us that venue and that context to talk about BlackBerry to a group of people that maybe we haven`t talked to before, and to make them think about how BlackBerry fits into their whole life, not just their work life," Kalbfleisch says.

Mayer`s demo fits the BlackBerry target, Kalbfleisch adds. "We`re able to reach out to a new audience, maybe a slightly younger audience in their 20s, without at all alienating the existing BlackBerry audience," he says.

In activating the campaign, BlackBerry will launch a site highlighting the tour and the company`s relationship with Mayer. Marketing in traditional and new media are part of the promotion, as is an on-site presence at concert venues. Consumer-interactive contests are being finalized, and BlackBerry will host VIP parties and backstage meet-and-greets at shows.

"On-site during every concert we`ll have the ability to showcase and demonstrate BlackBerry Curve, along with our carrier partner AT&T, so that people coming to the concerts will see, touch and feel our product, learn what it has to offer them, take pictures with it, have a little bit of fun with it," Kalbfleisch says. "We will have the ability to interact with the audience without interfering with the concert itself."

Live event sponsorship, particularly music events, has experienced huge growth in the past few years as marketers struggle to reach consumers in an efficient way. So why is BlackBerry just now getting into the tour sponsorship game?

"The product offering and our strategy had to be in line with reaching out to this type of audience," says Kalbfleisch, who says the BlackBerry reach is now broad and the brand more mainstream than it was only a few years ago. "The entertainment world and more unique opportunities started to make sense to us now. Two years ago it probably wasn`t time yet."
